Red quinoa is classified as a "grain-like" crop. It contains fewer calories than traditional cereals and is a great source of protein, magnesium, zinc, iron, folic acid, and B vitamins, which support metabolism and the functions of the brain and heart. It includes all nine essential amino acids, including lysine, which can be harder to obtain from other food sources. The red hue comes from beta-alanins, linked to enhanced physical endurance and quicker recovery. This makes it an ideal food for children, women, athletes, vegans, and others.
To prepare red quinoa, soak it in water for about 10 minutes before cooking to enhance nutrient absorption and flavor, then rinse it thoroughly. Boil it for about 20 minutes using a 1:2 ratio of quinoa to water. It can be incorporated into salads, soups, main dishes, desserts, and side dishes.
